Starbucks released their full list of the 600 stores throughout the U.S. that will be closing due to the strain they are finally feeling in light of the economic downturn. Investors seem non-fazed by it all, but with Starbucks shares dropping 45% in the last year, they should take note, especially in this poor economy.
Five dollar coffees finally caught up to the greedy Starbucks company. In a day when it costs $5 per gallon of gas, it just doesn’t make sense to pay the same for our coffee.
The common joke here in Seattle is there is a Starbucks on every corner. One year my husband and I were visiting downtown Vancouver, B.C. and there was a Starbucks literally on every corner. Why would you have to actually walk across the street for your caffeine kick, when you can stay on one side? Ridiculous.
Being from the Seattle area I can fairly say that Starbucks made some irratic real estate decisions and are now paying for it. While the economy tanked Starbucks chose to open three new stores a day, with many of them opening in Florida. Today, 60 of those Florida Starbuck stores are slated to close. Ouch!
